Our Curriculum
In an effort to prepare the children for public school in Lexington District #1, we parallel our curriculum to meet many of the district’s requirements. In addition, our curriculum is open-ended, which allows for flexibility and the changing needs of the children. It is not expected that every child achieve mastery of skills presented to them, but instead be introduced to those skills. We ensure that all activities are developmentally appropriate for each particular age group. The children will be individually evaluated periodically throughout the year. We use a variety of materials coupled with different activities, which will give the children the opportunity to learn and develop their own interests guided by the teachers. These activities will help the children develop their cognitive, emotional, social and motor skills in each particular unit. We use a thematic approach and different units throughout the year. Our four-year old students use the Zoo-Phonics curriculum widely utilized throughout the district. The Zoo-Phonics program fully involves their ears, eyes, mouth and body as they become aware of phonetics, the alphabet, and how to encode (spell and write) and decode (read). |
